Siamak Aghaei was born in Ahwaz. At the age of eight he began his musical studies on the “Santur” in “The Organization of Preservation and Publication of Iranian Traditional Music”. He has studied and play Santur with Iran’s most imminent “Santur” players, such as P.Meshkatian and M.Shenasa. He continued his studies of Persian classical repertoire (the Radif) with number of renowned masters such as MR.Lotfi and M.Kiani, a well-known interpreter of the “Radif”.
He received a degree in music from University of Tehran and resides in Tehran where he is active as a teacher of Santur and a composer.
His most recent commissions, which includes traditional Persian works written for YoYo Ma's "Silk Road Project", with whom he performed and recorded in 2008, "Atlas Ensemble" with Ed Spanjard and "Labyrinth Modal Ensemble" with Ross Daly in Europe, "Oriental Ensemble" with Nassir Shamma in Arabian Countries is promising to bring Persian classical music to a wider international audience.
He also founded "SanturNavazan Ensemble" in 2000, a unique group of new designed Santurs adapted to achieve a unique sound through contemporary music of Iran. "Beyond Our Path" is the latest SanturNavazan's DVD, published in 2007.
